Muy buenas tardes,
Sometimes I feel that the two years of a mission seems to pass more like 2 months. I feel like wrote to you all two days ago.... The week went so fast. Well, as I mentioned last week we had transfers, so this week Elder Silvester and I have spent a lot of time helping missionaries get situated in their new areas and going to meetings. But I thoroughly enjoyed the week.
We had our first Skype lesson with Desiree our investigator that lives in Tijuana this week, it went well. She is super sassy, and is constantly making jokes, and she acts like a member. She had come to church for about a year, and has read the Book of Mormon several times. She knows the church to be true, both logically and spiritually.
I had American food this week. It was awesome! I didn't feel sick afterwards haha...... But seriously though. We had pork chops and this awesome salad from the Bishop's wife. She is American. Yes!!!
The word of the week is Covenants. I will explain why. For the past few weeks I have been reflecting upon the sacred nature of the convents we make, and also upon the purpose of our life on the Earth. Many people say that all churches lead to the same path, or lead to God. President Boyd K. Packer spoke on this in October of 1985. Regarding the belief that all churches converge into one path to God he stated, "While the converging path idea is very appealing, it really is not reasonable. Suppose schools were operated on that philosophy, with each discipline a separate path leading to the same diploma. No matter whether you study or not, pass the tests or not, all would be given the same diploma--the one of their choice. Without qualifying, one could choose the diploma of an attorney, an engineer, a medical doctor. Surely you would not submit yourself to surgery under the hands of a graduate of that kind of school! But it does not work that way. It cannot work that way--not in education, not in spiritual matters. There are essential ordinances just as there are required courses. There are prescribed standards of worthiness. If we resist them, avoid them, or fail them, we will not enter in with those who complete the course."
Our purpose in this life is to make and keep Covenants. Specifically we must be Baptized, Confirmed a member of the church and receive the gift of the Holy Ghost, Receive both the Aaronic and Melchizedek Priesthoods (for men), receive temple endowments, and be sealed eternally as a couple in the temple. This is known as the covenant path. "And now, behold, my beloved brethren, this is the away; and there is none other way nor name given under heaven whereby man can be saved in the kingdom of God. And now, behold, this is the doctrine of Christ, and the only and true doctrine of the Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Ghost, which is one God, without end. Amen (2 Nephi 31:21)."
I know this to be true with all of my heart. I am grateful for the covenants I have made and I strive will all my power and ability to keep them. In a meeting we had this week, one of the Assistants to the a President, Elder Seegmiller, asked us to ponder the question, and I extend that invitation to all that read this: "How real is God to you?"
I have come to know wish a surety that God is real. That He sent His only begotten son to the Earth personally for me and for all men. I know that He is my loving Father. I know that the covenants I have made are real. I love God, my Heavenly Father, and am grateful for the service as a missionary I have been blessed with.
