[Weston] Anaheim Weekly September 21, 2015

This was another eventful week.

To start off, we had exchanges Tuesday evening, and I was blessed to exchange with a fantastic missionary named Elder Nixon. He used to be one of my Zone Leaders, and we get along very well. In fact I look forward to spending time with him after the mission (he is from CO Springs). I went to his area in my old ward Santa Ana 10. It was a good time.

Wednesday was an interesting day, but somewhat boring. We were at the Mission Office all day it seemed, doing all sorts of tasks. When we finally got out to work, it seemed that not a single person wanted to speak with us. We didn't teach a single soul that night.

Thursday we exchanged again, Elder Montgomery (one of my former companions) joined me in my area in Anaheim. It was a very great night, we taught a lot of different people which was fun for the both of us. Adalid, our most progressing investigator, basically taught us about the Word of Wisdom, and about the prophet. He will be getting baptized this coming Saturday. Sweet!

Maria and Eduardo (two of the investigators I was teaching in my previous area with Elder Silvester) are getting baptized this Saturday as well. WOOHOO!

Friday, President Lords (Mission Presidency)  took Elder Dougherty and I to lunch at the hospital where he does surgeries. He is a great guy, I have gotten to know him very well over the past year and a half.  Friday night was also the night where I initially felt an allergic reaction to a medication I have been taking, which led to a terrible weekend.

Saturday we were in the ER for my allergic reaction, I should be close to 100% by the end of the week, hopefully, says the doctor. We went to the Temple, for the tours that our mission was doing that day, it was my last time that I will see the Newport Beach Temple as a missionary.  I love this Temple so very much.

I do not have much more to report on. The greatest blessing of the week though, is that Adalid is going to get baptized! He came to church yesterday in a nice suit, and just was beaming with joy about the fact that he was going to get baptized the next week. I am also very grateful for President and Sister Taggart. The air-conditioning in our apartment has been broken for the past few days, and due to my allergic reaction, we were invited to stay at their home last night. We basically spent all day today with them as well. My Heavenly Father is so good to me.

[Mason] Scituate, Rhode Island BABY!!!

Well, this last week was pretty legit! We had some fun doing missionary work.

What I mean by this is we extended 7 baptismal dates this week and they were all accepted and they were all at church except for 1. It was so sick.

We began teaching a family this week; Eric and Julie Evans, Chris, Tyler, Nathan, Madison!!!!it was really cool, because they really want to do this. We taught them the restoration and the plan of salvation, and we got them to church with some members helping us out.

We taught Diandra this week, and We invited her to be baptized, and last night we taught the word of wisdom as we were compelled to, and she is determined to live it. it was exciting.

Let me think. We attended third thursday, its a street Fair in connecticut, where we had a booth with our missions amazing Portable visitors center, It was super fun, contacting on the street all night, testifying of the Book of Mormon and helping people come unto Christ! It was the best.my companion talked to Miss Connecticut, and attained her info. it was pretty great, a Highlight for his Mission, for sure.

Well I don't have anything else to say. Some of you will see me Friday I suppose.

Until then,

We had another good week!

Adalid, one of our investigators, is progressing super well! He wants to get baptized, and he has a baptismal date for the 26-27 of this month! Sweet! Axel who I baptized a year ago should be receiving his mission call this week, which is so incredibly exciting! Ahhhh! I do. It even know what to say!

We had two different exchanges this week, as an assistant, we do many exchanges apparently. For both of them, I held down the fort in our area here. I worked with Elder Dube on Tuesday, and Elder Yazzie on Saturday. Elder Yazzie you may remember, he has been a good friend of mine practically my whole mission. Elder Dube is the son of Elder Dube, a general Authority. So that was a neat experience, he is from Zimbabwe. On exchanges with Elder Yazzie on Saturday, we found this chile plant in a complex we were in just before dinner. He plucked two from the vines, and for dinner we had them. Wow. Talk about pain. Elder Yazzie about had a heart attack.

I met with a President Taggart this week personally to discuss future plans relations to schooling and work. We talked about our things as well, but it helped me a lot to calm my nerves for returning home. I am Elder Dougherty's third companion that he will finish off, and every time President brings up things about marriage and companions after the mission, he gets excited and cannot stop talking to me about it. Marriage. President  Taggart has made it clear that it is of the greatest importance when returning.

We attended a few district meetings this week, it seems that our mission is having trouble receiving the training that we and President Taggart give to the mission. We hope to be able to correct the few issues with that, so that we all may be on the same page throughout the mission.

We had stake conference yesterday. It was focused entirely on "Hastening the Lord's Work." I enjoyed it a lot. The greatest part of the week was Sunday evening. Elder Dougherty and I have not had a lot of time to work this week in our area, let alone work together in our area. We parked our car and walked for about 4 hours and  talked to every living soul we saw. It was a real treat for us. The spirit of the work was so strong, and we met so many cool people.

I know that I have been called of God to do His work. For it it were not so, I could not feel the way I do, I would not have become the man I am at the present moment. I am grateful for missionary work,
and the love it has helped me develop for others. I know that Jesus is the Christ.

[Mason] Time flies

If time was a fly, then i would take its wings off, to make it a walk. Then I would have more of it.

This past week was great. We did a lot of physical Labor, Clearing Logs and wood from trees that had fallen due to a storm that occurred over a month ago. We also tore down an old Stone wall at a members home, after digging a huge ditch, to build a Fire Pit. It was cool, but we almost died!! It was a blast. Boulders weigh much more than you would think sometimes. I will not this week!

Elder Heflin and I been struggling to meet with our investigators and we have ended up dropping many of them. If you cant Keep an Appt, then wont keep any other commitment we will leave you. ugh...

Well expect some pictures here, ....

[Mason] to be short in writing

Sorry I didn't email on Monday, We were unable to due to the opportunity presented to our Zone and a few others of going to the temple. We were able to participate in an endowment session, and It was a marvelous experience. We then were presented with another opportunity, one that happens only 2x a year....a Red Sox game at 130pm on a Monday!!!!! so we went to that. They played the Blue jays, and Killed them! it was sick. I dont have the pictures with me, so they will have to be sent at a later time!

As my Mission comes to a close, I also look back and ponder on who I was, and who I have become. I am grateful for these 2 years. I am trying every day to give my all to the Lord. the days are getting shorter it seems, and As I look forward, it seems that I have less and less time due to meetings, and what not. all I can do is keep asking the Lord, "what more can I do?" This question is how we find ourselves receiving the wonderful benediction from the Lord "well done."

I will have to talk on Monday, I need to get out and work, so See ya!

[Weston] Anaheim Weekly September 7th, 2015

My friends and family,

There is much to be thankful for in my life. I have been raised in the Gospel, which has taught me since my youth that I was to serve a mission. I often think about that one decision I have made in my life, to serve the Lord for two years. I ponder many questions. Where would I be if I didn't? What would I be doing? But most importantly, Who would I be? To some, two years may seem like an eternity, however, to one who loves the Lord and strives to serve Him, it is simply not
enough time.

This past week Elder Dougherty and I set some goals for different aspects of the work. We didn't have a whole lot of time this week to focus on our area, just a couple of hours each day, but we accomplished each goal we set!

We visited two different zone meetings this week to see how well the different zones receive the training we gave at Mission Leadership Council one week before. The trainings were very different from what we had taught, and President Taggart was not overly-pleased with many of the zone trainings.

Tuesday we spent nearly all day long at the Mission office working on reports and other items of business for the mission. Sounds fun right?  It wasn't. But it is part of the calling.

We had exchanges with one pair of zone leaders this past Saturday. I went to their area with Elder Hackman. They are in a YSA ward. So that was a new experience for me. It was fun, young adults are very interesting when it comes to the Gospel. Everything about talking to them is different! It was great!

Sunday was really great. We had a few meetings for ward council and what not, but then we were able to sit and study before church actually started. I love the Book of Mormon! It invites the Spirit so Strongly into the lives of the readers! Our ward is a little different than others. We have a small group of people that only speak Spanish in our ward (why don't they go to the Spanish wards? Don't ask me).  They hold separate services, so I attend with them in Spanish while my companion attends the English. I pass the sacrament weekly, I might even have to bless weekly as well. I speak almost weekly. It is great!  The people are very nice.

Well. This week was a quick one again. All is well here in Anaheim. Take care!

[Weston] Anaheim Weekly August 31, 2015

Hello!

This week was great! Incredibly busy, but great! We took the departing missionaries to the airport  Tuesday morning early, then picked up 26 new elders and sisters afterwards. We spent all day with them, literally all day, we didn't do any missionary work that day, but it was great to meet the new missionaries! They are all fantastic!

Wednesday we had trainings for all of the leaders in the mission, it went well. Elder Dougherty and I trained everyone on attributes that leaders should have, we had a lot of participation, which always makes for a better training! We got to work for a few hours that evening in our area. That night we met with President Taggart from 9:30pm to late.... (Not going to say when) to discuss the training we would be giving the following Friday for Mission Leadership Council. We got to bed very late.

Thursday we had district meeting, afterwards President Taggart held a meeting for the four departing missionaries at the end of this transfer (myself included in those four) and we received training
about what to expect upon returning. It made me think a lot about who I want to be when I return. I am not so much scared about going home, but more nervous, just because I don't know what to expect entirely.

Friday we had Mission Leadership Council. Elder Doughery and I trained all of the Zone Leaders and the Sister-Training-Leaders about following the spirit, and teaching for understanding. Not simply teaching to get lessons, but so that our investigators truly understand. It went super well!

Saturday I got to attend the baptism of Desiree! She did it! It was incredible! She bore her testimony at the end, and she shared that it
was the most important thing that she has ever done in her life. I know that to be true for myself as well.

Sunday was church, my first time I have attended an English ward in about two years. It was very strange, but still the first two hours of church I was actually attending a the service of a small group of Spanish Speakers that are in the ward. They hold separate services, so I attended there to help out. I passed the sacrament, and spoke. It
was interesting.

I am grateful. My heart is full. My Heavenly Father has been so good to me in my life. I pray that we may all recognize His hand in all things.

1) Desiree is the coolest! I cannot wait for next year when I will go to her temple sealing in Guadalajara!
2) Departing Missionary Selfie - Sister Taggart likes selfies apparently.
